There is an interesting analogy between the accelerating ship idea used to explain Rindler horizons and the potential risk of humans being left behind by rapidly advancing AI systems:

Andersen describes a scenario where a spaceship accelerates constantly away from Earth, and signals or an astronaut sent from Earth towards the accelerating ship can never catch up — they hit an event horizon beyond which they can never return to the ship.

This is analogous to the “intelligence explosion” singularity hypothesized by Kurzweil. As AI systems improve at an ever-accelerating pace, there may come a point where biological human intelligence cannot keep up or meaningfully interact with the rapidly advancing AI systems. We could essentially hit an “intelligence horizon” beyond which we get causally disconnected and left behind.

Like the astronaut sent towards the accelerating ship’s event horizon gets redshifted and disappears from the ship’s perspective, human-level intelligence may become too “redshifted” compared to the surging advances of recursively self-improving AI to have any impactful interactions with it and become causally disconnected from the continued progress of accelerating AI intellignce.

… we need to figure out a way to “stay on the ship” and advance our own capacities in conjunction with AI
